Rosehill provides opportunities for people of all ages to take part in and enjoy the performing arts in community venues around Copeland and Allerdale.

With the reopening of our historic theatre, now complemented by contemporary and accessible facilities and a new restaurant – The Green Room – Rosehill is now a first class venue for all West Cumbria.

We have only got to this point with the support of hundreds of generous donations. We have achieved a great deal together, but there is still more to do to make sure that Rosehill continues to bring great performing arts to Cumbria and offer the range of opportunities to participate that have become an important part of what Rosehill does.

Participation in and enjoyment of the arts brings benefits throughout people’s lives. From learning to innovating, health and well-being and enterprise. The arts improve places and the lives of the people that live in them.

  • Ten people making a gift of £10 a month would make it possible to work with 120 young people in a year, introducing them to and getting them involved in music and drama like this year’s Snappy Operas and School Sings
  • Twenty people giving £20 a month would enable us to offer an apprenticeship at the newly opened Rosehill Theatre, giving a powerful start to a career in the performing arts, hospitality or event management
  • Fifty people giving £50 would help bring a world-class performer to West Cumbria
  • Just 25 people giving £1000 would make a further community based musical project possible, following up on the great success of the children's opera, Brundibár
  • With five people giving £5000 we could buy a baby grand piano with equipment to move it for concerts in schools, village halls, community centres and other great venues on the road

Whilst Rosehill has been redeveloped, we have staged performances and workshops around Allerdale and Copeland, from Moorclose Community Centre, Cleator Moor Civic Hall and Lakes College, to Muncaster Castle, Jericho Primary School and Parton Village Hall.

We have engaged with over 4,000 people with quality arts events this year, but will increase that many times in the year ahead.

We want to build on this work during the next twelve months and to bring those audiences to the new Rosehill, a fantastic facility for the whole area, with modern, welcoming foyers and bar, fully restored theatre with superb dressing rooms, designed step free for users with disabilities, and a top floor restaurant and balcony overlooking our wonderful coast.

We will be bringing the best of the performing arts to West Cumbria, always ensuring that the widest audience is able to experience the range of events on offer.

We will provide opportunities for everyone to participate and enjoy the performing arts and to develop their skills whether as part of a community choir or an apprentice in the restaurant.
