Taking Part: Music Makers

Music Makers inspires children and young people through participation in high quality music activity in intimate and unusual settings. Our programme of classical concerts, choral workshops and stage productions performed and delivered by nationally acclaimed musicians are designed to take participants and audience members on a journey, increasing their confidence and aspirations by giving them the opportunity to find their own voice and express themselves in a creative way.

Mostly Mozart – A singing project with primary and secondary schools in Workington and community choirs who will sing in concert with opera singers Victoria Simmonds and Katherine Stevens (born and brought up in Workington, now working with Opera North). This project is providing high quality singing opportunities and provides professional development for music teachers.

Live on Line – in partnership with Cumbria Music Hub, Orchestras Live and Manchester Camerata. We are supporting this First Time Live project by introducing primary schools to the repertoire ahead of the concert (which will be live-streamed) produced by students of Cockermouth School in March 2016. We will be programming a series of concerts and workshops that will take place in primary schools and participants will be encouraged to produce responses to the repertoire.

The Rattler - in partnership with Mahogany Opera Group this is an interactive pageant opera for communities and families based on the original story of Rumpelstiltskin. Rosehill on the Road will present The Rattler in West Cumbria in summer 2016. We will work with local communities to provide opportunities for families to take part in workshops to help create the set and props and there will be opportunities for the audience to join in the performance.

St John Passion will be performed by English Touring Opera and community singers including children. We will work with community choirs and local school children to teach them the music for this semi-staged production which will be performed in Workington in December 2016.

BBC Ten Pieces - opens up the world of classical music to children and young people. Rosehill is delighted to be a Champion of the BBC Ten Pieces project and is supporting primary and secondary schools and communities to participate in this project and to respond creatively to the Ten Pieces repertoire
