Stage is set for celebrations with a difference
A series of seasonal parties on stage is about to begin in a major new venture at Rosehill Theatre.
Party guests will celebrate Christmas in unique style by treading the boards of the Moresby venue's Grade II listed auditorium – hailed on its opening in 1959 as a "rose-red silk-lined jewel box".
The idea follows the successful introduction of relaxed, cabaret-style supper concerts last November by the theatre and The Green Room restaurant team.
Director Richard Elder said: "We hosted a super cabaret-style evening in the auditorium with opera singers Nicky Spence and Victoria Simmonds, and pianist Julia Cobby. We were keen to offer more of this type of stage event in such a fabulous setting.
"It was therefore a natural choice to present Christmas celebrations in a similar way, starting with a cocktail in Messel's Bar before guests are directed into the theatre for their four-course supper on stage.
"We're excited to offer people the same view of the auditorium enjoyed by many music and theatre professionals over the years, from Peggy Ashcroft to David Bowie. It really is a unique experience.
The new stage venture not only includes festive parties on selected dates between November 22 and January 12. There's also a themed evening of supper and song planned for December 14, featuring award-winning jazz singer Tina May and pianist Nikki Iles with a musical celebration of Paris, complemented by French fare.
Richard added that Rosehill also offers exclusive hire and bespoke arrangements for companies and larger groups wishing to use the auditorium, at any time of the year. Further stage events are being organised for 2019 – including a move to host weddings in the auditorium.
"It's a truly exceptional and romantic setting, and perfect for couples seeking ceremonies and celebrations with a difference," said Richard.
"We already host conferences, which work well in the auditorium with its tiered seating, full lighting rig and PA, and are organising a wedding fayre for March.
"Rosehill is 60 next year and we are planning lots of exciting activities for the theatre and The Green Room.
"We hope to really engage the community in our celebrations to help make Rosehill's Swinging Sixties memorable!"
