This summer, the monster creations of artist Bruce Asbestos will take over Rosehill from 24 to 31 August 2024. Known for his playful, larger-than-life creations that truly engage, Asbestos encourages audiences to reflect on the power of friendship with his joyous collection of misfits.

Once upon a time, in a whimsical world filled with larger-than-life inflatable creatures and mysterious monsters, there lived a friendly monster named Hooboo. With a heart as big as their inflatable body, Hooboo brought joy and laughter to everyone they met. However, in the shadows lurked Hooboo’s arch-nemesis, Treakle, a mischievous and colourful slug with a penchant for stealing peoples’ lunches.

Embark on a journey through Bruce Asbestos’ Monster Takeover, where imagination reigns supreme and monsters come in all shapes and sizes. Discover new inflatable friends, like the lovable Hooboo, but beware of the sneaky Treakle, who might steal your snacks when you least expect it!

As you explore this multi-sensory experience, immerse yourself in the exhibition soundtrack, which can be heard throughout the exhibition or downloaded on Spotify. Let the music guide you through the whimsical world of Hooboo and Treakle as they navigate their playful rivalry. Free, self-directed, creative activities will also be available for people to enjoy during their visit.

Asbestos’ work draws from a rich history of painting, sculpture, popular culture, folklore, and fairy tales. He frequently mixes everyday objects with high art, fashion, social media, video games, and global pop culture. Inspired by Japanese culture and the concept of ‘Kawaii’ or cuteness, Asbestos creates works that delight audiences of all ages. With the artist attracting over 6 million views on TikTok and 1.5 million on YouTube, his new exhibition looks set to get everyone talking and posting.

Superb venue, clean, and the theatre is beautiful. Saw a film for the first time last night, sound and picture were awesome. Highly recommended.
