Music: Tina May presents Berlin - Paris - Broadway: A Journey in Jazz

Award-winning singer Tina May returns to Rosehill with pianist Nikki Iles and bassist Julie Walkington to present Berlin - Paris - Broadway: A Journey in Jazz.

The performance at 3pm on Sunday 31 March will feature songs by George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter, plus the greats from stage and screen, such as Judy Garland, Peggy Lee and more...

Tina May is a sparkling entertainer whose vocal ability and stage presence have won her worldwide acclaim. A singer with an affinity for France, having lived in Paris as a student, she has won numerous awards, including the vocal category at the 1998 BT Jazz Awards and an Outstanding Services to Jazz Education award in the US.

She made her debut at London's world-famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in 1993 and has since performed there many times.

Notable collaborations include performing in the UK with both Cleo Laine and John Dankworth - both of whom have appeared at Rosehill - and recording with US piano great Ray Bryant at the renowned Rudy Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey.

Nikki Iles, jazz pianist and composer, was a founder member of the innovative Creative Jazz Orchestra and is in much demand as a performer. Although well known as a pianist, composition remains a major part of her musical life with commissions including The London Sinfonietta, The London Philharmonic’s Renga and The National Youth Jazz Orchestra.

With a parallel career as a widely respected teacher, Nikki is professor of jazz piano at the Royal Academy of Music and Middlesex University as well as giving masterclasses around the world. She has been a driving force behind the jazz syllabus at the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and continues to publish with Oxford University Press.

Julie Walkington started her musical career playing, on electric bass, with various rock, indie and folk bands in the north of England and the US before her love of jazz led her to move to London. She has worked with many of London’s jazz musicians such as Claire Martin, Anita Wardell, Huw Warren, Chris Biscoe, Jim Mullen and has recorded with Tina May, Tony Coe, Georgia Mancio and Barb Jungr, with whom she also toured extensively.

Don't miss this exciting Mother's Day performance of Berlin - Paris - Broadway by three super female jazz musicians. It comes hot on the heels of Tina and Nikki's successful Rosehill debut in December, when they presented Piaf and Friends in a delightful evening of supper and song.
