Music: National Youth Chamber Choir - Sun, Sea, Sky, Stars

An exciting performance by the National Youth Chamber Choir takes place at St John's Church, Workington, on Saturday 10 March. This is a Rosehill on the Road production, in association with the Rotary Club of Workington and supported by Allerdale Borough Council and Cumbria county councillors.

"My soul, there is a country far beyond the stars" – the opening words of Hubert Parry's glorious Songs of Farewell introduce a truly heavenly choral journey, guided by the outstanding young voices of the National Youth Chamber Choir of Great Britain.

Traditional classics join contemporary gems, notably Lux Aurumque by superstar US composer Eric Whitacre, recorded by the National Youth Chamber Choir and Whitacre in 2010 for their Grammy Award-winning album Light and Gold, and Love Endureth by 2018 Last Night of the Proms composer Roxanna Panufnik.

The National Youth Chamber Choir is a handpicked ensemble drawn from the ranks of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, and meets year-round for a range of projects encompassing performances, broadcasts, recording sessions and education events. Members are aged 18-25 and are typically enrolled in music further education or at the outset of junior singing careers.

The core octet of the group is made of up eight current NYCGB Fellowship holders, who are in receipt of a dedicated professional training programme.

As part of their exciting visit to West Cumbria, the choir will also perform a special schools concert on Monday 11 March at Rosehill.
