Theatre: We Are The Lions, Mr Manager!

What you are running here is not a factory, it is a zoo. But in a zoo there are many types of animals. Some are monkeys who dance on your fingertips, others are lions who can bite your head off. We are the lions, Mr. Manager! The remarkable story of the Grunwick strike comes to Rosehill on April 21.

This remarkable production tells the story of Jayaben Desai who led the Grunwick Strike in 1976-1978. Facing draconian conditions, this educated woman and her fellow workers, mostly immigrants, began a fight for union recognition which resonates up to today.

A resolute and dedicated inspiration whose leadership converted an industrial dispute into a national campaign for dignity and human rights and changed the face of industrial relations, Jayaben Desai was listed by Radio 4 amongst those women who have had the most impact on the lives of other women over the last 70 years.

Brought to Rosehill by Townsend Theatre Productions, this pacey performance with all roles played by Medhavi Patel and co-writer Neil Gore tells the story of the strike in words and music; a thought-provoking and inspirational telling of a powerful story with humour and hope.

★★★★A powerful story, powerfully toldClare Brennan. The Observer.
