KIND Acts: Creativity, Connection, and Kindness in West Cumbria
The KIND Acts enable local creatives to develop creative projects in communities across West Cumbria. Each commission is focused on working with residents, particularly those facing challenges or having limited access to regional opportunities. They use creativity to strengthen communities, support personal and collective well-being, and contribute to the common good. Gift it Forward
Led by Janice Murray, Gift it Forward brings residents in Green Bank together to create art focused on kindness. During each session, participants craft three pieces: one to keep for themselves, one to give to someone they care about, and one to donate to someone in need. This project encourages generosity and joy, with each piece representing an act of kindness. These works will be displayed in an exhibition at Rosehill in December, celebrating the power of kindness through creativity.
Time to Change Project
Established in June 2013, Time to Change partners with local authorities, corporate organisations, and the charity sector to improve lives through warmth and kindness. They provide help and support to those most in need in our communities. Based within Kells, Whitehaven, a community space has been established for residents across Kells, Green Bank and Woodhouse.
We have partnered with TTC to provide a new opportunity which places creativity at the heart of the centre. KIND Creative Anne Blankson-Hemans is working in residence with the organisation to develop innovative projects for and with the communities that will interact with the space.
The Welcome Hub Artist in Residence
Every Monday at the Welcome Hub in Whitehaven Town Centre, artist-in-residence Nanette Madan leads creative sessions that bring people together for art and conversation. Supported by local social care organisations, these sessions offer a welcoming, safe space for residents to connect, share stories, and create. The Hub has become a valued community space for reducing social isolation and building friendships through creativity.
