Rosehill Players

Rosehill Players was formed in 2003 with the vision of gathering amateur talent to produce theatre which would equal anything performed professionally. To realise that vision, local enthusiast Tony Roberts personally financed Mary O’Malley’s play Once A Catholic and, after a successful run at Keswick’s Theatre By The Lake, the play sold out three consecutive nights at Rosehill and Rosehill Players was born.

Since then, the Players have performed a host of plays at Rosehill, including An Inspector Calls, Last Tango in Whitby and Blood Brothers. They have also taken various productions on local tours to schools and community venues in the area.

Whitehaven Theatre Group

Whitehaven Theatre Group was formed in 1970. They are an amateur society that tries to bring the opportunity to experience live theatre to the community through participation as actors, singers, production crew and audience. The group has performed musicals, plays and pantomimes almost every year in Whitehaven and have been nominees and winners of several NODA North West awards.

Current Members age from 7 years old to 81 years old and all have a passion for the live arts, be it on the stage or behind the scenes.

Rehearsals are normally held on Monday and Wednesday evenings and on Sunday afternoons/evenings for musicals and pantomimes. They also run fundraising events throughout the year and are always looking for new members, both on stage and off.

Whitehaven & District Amateur Operatic Society

Whitehaven & District Amateur Operatic Society (WADAOS) are committed to entertaining the people of the area with shows and plays.

WADAOS was established in 1904, first performing in 1905. At Rosehill, they have recently performed Showstoppers musical concert and The Addams Family.

​Members range from age 8 to 80 and they are always looking for new members to take on roles on stage, backstage, front of house and in their production team.  

​Members are required to pay an annual membership fee of £25 for adults and £15 for children under 16 and pensioners. These 'subs' can be paid weekly (£2 a week at rehearsals usually does it) or in block payments. Please speak to the treasurer if you have any questions about your subs.
